I updated Movies...more tomorrow night...or whenever.

Sunday 4.28.02 - 1:29pm PST

After Kim and I got home from dinner and a movie last night, she promptly fell asleep on the couch. I took advantage of the situation and tuned to Cartoon Network where Samurai Jack was on. I love this show. I'm not sure why, but it makes me laugh. I plan on buying the pilot movie on DVD now.

After Samurai Jack, the new Justice League came on. I've only see a few of these, but I think they are really good. In this episode, Flash accidently tore a hole to another dimension (this kind of thing happens a lot) where they were greeted by the Justice Guild of America, a collection of similar superheros except they looked and acted like superheros from the 50s. It was great, although it was a two-parter, so now I'm going to have to find when the second part is coming on. I may by that pilot on DVD as well.

After Justice League, Batman Beyond came on. Saturday night must be the night for cool cartoons. I like Batman Beyond even though I do think it is an attempt to turn the Batman character into Spider-Man. If you're not familiar with Batman Beyond, it is basically like this: It is the future, Bruce Wayne (the original Batman) is old but still rich and living in Gotham. A high school kid dresses up in the new Batman costume with lots of bells and whistles and fights crime while Bruce teaches him wisdom and restraint and all the lessons learned from years of vigilantism. So basically, they took Batman, took away the cape, made him young so now he has girl trouble, he can stick to walls, has superhuman reflexes, and can shoot cables from his hands...in other words, he's Spider-Man. It is still a good show, though.

Maybe I should grow up and stop watching cartoons. You know..., I would, if there was something better on television. I updated the Movies section with my thoughts on Jason X.

Thursday 4.25.02 - 9:21pm PST

I went to work yesterday, and was...OK, I guess, but I took off today. I can't seem to shake whatever this affliction is. So, while at home today, I took the opportunity to watch G.I. Joe: The Movie while Kim was away. She did not seem terribly interested when I showed her some of it the other night. This DVD is worth buying just because it has 25 of the public service announcements. You know, the thing were kids are doing something stupid, and a member of G.I. Joe comes by and corrects them, then the kid says, "...now I know," and then you get the ever classic,"And knowing is half the battle," response. Such common things that happen to kids like Clothes on Fire, and Lightning hits Water. I mean, if Beachhead had not told me the dangers of petting strange dogs, there is no telling where I might have ended up...probably a gang.

I was surprised there were a lot of Star Wars sounds used in the movie. I heard lightsabers sounds, engine noises, tie-fighters...all used differently, but still recognizable to a Star Wars fan.

I updated Movies with some stuff, and put in some meta tags. Hopefully, Kim will have my FAQs page done soon at least. She is not convinced of the need for a Current Projects page.

Tuesday 4.23.02 - 9:44pm PST

I was pretty sick again today, so I took the morning off and tried to get my temperature to quit changing drastically. I don't mind being a little hot or a little cold, but back and forth is a little much. I went into work around noon and immediately regretted it.

I updated both Movies and Videogames with some stuff. Not a lot of action in the forums yet, but I haven't gotten any meta tags for the site. I'll do that this week. Also, Kim is working on two more sections for FAQs and Current Projects. They will not be updated as much, but will just give you an idea of what I'm working on and where this site came from.

Another condo/apt may be slipping out from under our grasp. We got a counter-offer and we countered their counter-offer with something else. Kim does not think that this place has a balcony, which will make grilling steaks every Sunday night a little hard, so I don't think she will mind if this one slips by. Something else will come along. We have found a lot of places we like, we just keep getting beat on the deal.

I'm convinced the only difference between a condo and an apartment is that you can buy a condo. All of the places we've seen look strangely like apartments to me.

Almost time to watch The Shield, and watch Kim cringe.

Monday 4.22.02 - 1:36pm PST

I'm home sick from work today with some kind of fever or something. It sucks. I always feel bad about missing work, like I used to when I would miss a day of class in college. Some of the guys that I work with take days off with wreckless abandon. I'm not able to do that.

I've updated Movies and Videogames. Also, if you want to write a movie review or your thoughts on a game or a movie, just send it to me in email. Maybe I'll post it up here. As always, you can rant in the forum.

4.20.02

Alice In Chains frontman, Layne Staley, dead at 34

I got an email from my friend Chris this morning saying, "Sorry about Layne". I had a pretty good idea what had happened. I listened to AIC a lot in high school, saw them in concert a few times, and followed them on their solo projects pretty closely. I bought Above by Mad Season (a collaboration between AICs Layne Staley, Pearl Jam's Mike McCready, and two other guys) the day it came out, bought the John Lennon tribute album Working Class Hero mostly because of the Mad Season cover of "I Don't Wanna Be A Soldier", and I damn near bought the soundtrack for The Faculty, because it had Layne and Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello covering Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall Part II". To my knowledge, that is the last recording he ever did, so here is a link to the .mp3 of the song: Another Brick in the Wall Cover. *NOT A VALID LINK ANYMORE* If you want to download it, right click and 'Save As'.

So, this sucks. I had not heard anything from this guy in a while, but I was always hopeful of a new album or something. Jerry Cantrell is still out there doing stuff, so I was always optimistic. I am not surprised, Layne was a pretty heavy heroin user back then, and I guess that is hard to kick. The last video I saw of thiers was for "Grind", and I thought he looked healthier. Well, I'll be loading up my CD player with the CDs from the Alice in Chains Music Bank. I also put in an order for the DVD set of Music Bank.

Nothing good came out this weekend. I thought about catching a matinee of The Scorpion King, but I'm not at all excited about it. So that will be a rental. Kim and I rented How to Kill Your Neighbor's Dog, and it was pretty good if you like comedies about writers. Next weekend, we'll be seeing Jason X . Laugh if you will, but "Jason in space" sounds like a good time to me.

I should be working on my script.
