I'm reading some wonderful TV news today. First of all, Girl's Club was cancelled by Fox after just two shows. And then I read that the reality TV show Liza and David starring Liza Minelli and her freakishly hideous husband David has been cancelled before it was even aired by VH1. Hurray! If you've ever seen that animal mauling they call a wedding kiss that they keep showing on TV, you'll be happy about this, too. Can't we get a reality show about someone interesting? Give me a reality show about Steven Spielberg or Tom Cruise or Lucas...someone who does something interesting with their lives. What about John Williams? I'd love to see what he does during the day. That is strange because those peoples' lives hardly qualify as "reality", but I'd still watch. Oh, and no more shows about cops, lawyers, or doctors. Yes...I get it. They are all better than me. But how many times do I need to see the story of the courageous doctor who helps the homeless guy who was hit by a car and doesn't have health insurance? Or the lawyer who has to defend the guilty child. The closest I get to reality TV is Curb Your Enthusiasm, which is becoming more of a Sunday highlight than The Sopranos. You know what I want out of TV? More 24. Give me a show where the main character shoots an FBI witness and cuts off his head during the premiere. That's TV!

P.S. Guess what is filling the empty slot opened up by Girl's Club...season one of 24.

So, Kim and I came into the PTC to install a NIC in the web server during the off hours. Something has gone wrong because the website won't start up and IIS is freaking out. I just know this will get blamed on me somehow. I'm sitting in Kim's office while she is on the phone with their IT guy...who lives in San Francisco. Convenient.

Our DSL is back on now. Apparently Kovad, who Earthlink leases the lines from, locked my port to perform routine maintenance and the batch file they run to turn everything back on never unlocked it. It took me 4 phone calls and 3 days to get this call escalated to someone who could actually do something about it, and more than likely, it took him less than 4 seconds to fix it. Well...no harm done. We're back online at home now.

The season premiere for 24 is tomorrow, free of commercial interruption. I hear it is very good.

Kim has a nice view of downtown from up here. She is in on the 20th floor of the Aeon building, which is the second tallest in downtown L.A. I suppose I should go in there and see if there is anything else I can do. Blah...I want to go home.

Our DSL has been down for approximately 32 hours now. I've called Earthlink twice. While I am tempted to start another Earthlink Flame War...I won't. I'll just suffer through dial-up until the horror passes. I think we may be finished painting our living room by Saturday, so I can move back in up there. We'll announce our glorious return with some kind of loud movie. Speaking of loud movies, Spider-Man comes out on DVD on Friday, November 1st. As if you weren't sick enough about hearing how I was in it, perhaps I'll make up some desktop wallpaper featuring a hi-res still of my performance for you to download. Actually, I'll just take the screen grabs and I have a feeling that a photoshopping frenzy will take place. I have some other photoshop bait to post soon anway. I guess I should post an update about the Fantasy Film League so here are the latest standings:

Guy in a Suit Fantasy Film League - July 2002
1. $38,625,000 - Elliott
2. $30,825,000 - Mr. Moore
3. $26,325,000 - Ron
4. $24,937,500 - Kim
5. $24,675,000 - Jeremy
6. $20,740,000 - Chris Heffner
7. $19,125,000 - Travis
8. $8,437,500 - Shane

Now, keep in mind that the July 2002 season IS STILL RUNNING. You'll notice that I have shown the greatest improvement since the last time I reported the standings. Also, only 3 of my actors are even scoring so far, leaving my ringers waiting on the bench. Since the October season is well underway, here are those standings as well:

Guy in a Suit Fantasy Film League - October 2002
1. $17,100,000 - Chris Heffner
2. $6,900,000 - Kim
3. $2,625,000 - Ron
4. $2,250,000 - Kiiiiiiirrrrk!
5. $0 - Mr. Moore
6. $0 - Pajaro
7. $0 - Jeremy
8. $0 - Elliott
9. $0 - Travis

I'm sure Heffner is taking all kinds of quiet pleasure in kicking all our asses so far in the October season. Kim seems to think people will be confused by me posting multiple seasons like this. Well, that is how it works. There can be as many as four consecutive seasons running at once since they start every 3 months and last an entire year. Since 12 months > 3 months, there is overlap...hence...seasons running concurrently. Don't worry, I'll let you know when someone wins a league and there will much rejoicing...because it will be me.

Some time ago, I accused another blogger of being "the worst blogger in the world" due to his lack of updates. Well, the tables have turned, and the accusations are being thrown my way now. So, here is some stuff.

We are in the process of painting the giant room with the vaulted ceilings this week. Kim and I are holed up in the bedroom, while the rest of the house is covered in wet paint, plastic coverings, and drywall dust. Our computers are still in the loft, but are safe from damage.

Yesterday, I was locked out of the house because our contractor has my key and Kim had to take someone to the airport, so I went to Best Buy for several hours. I ended up buying the smaller E.T. DVD, the 2 disc True Romance DVD, and the 2 disc Unforgiven DVD. The sad part is that I can't watch any of them because I refuse to watch them on the substandard TV in my bedroom with the mono sound. I'll have to wait until the paint is done and I get my stuff hooked back up upstairs.

On Saturday Kim, Mike, and I went to see a sneak preview of The Ring. We had all three seen the original, and the collective opinion was that Dreamworks has made a nearly perfect American version of the same story. They fixed a few things that were niggling problems with the original, but they did not gloss it up too much. I felt the ending had the same creepiness as the original. I'll write up a full review soon with comparisons to the original. In short, I think this is one of the best American horror films I have seen in several years. The funny thing is that it is rated PG-13, but it is so much scarier than practically every R horror film I've seen. This movie will give kids nightmares, guaranteed. However, it also may make them think twice about turning on a television. The Ring may not do to television what Poltergeist did to it in the 80s, but it could be close. I hope this is a huge hit next weekend. Go see it.

I feel I should point out that the movie was nearly ruined for us by the audience. Kim and I swore to never again go to the movies at night, because that is when all the stupid people go. We had little choice in this instance because it was a sneak preview. Well, we were treated to some poor movie conduct. There was a lady sitting in front of us, who asked after the introduction in her outdoor voice, "What happened?" to everyone around her, as if they had seen more of the movie then her. She was also the person who figures something out seconds before the movie tells you and tells the person next to her, but loud enough so that we can all here her. Unfortunately, for her, her "revelations" were painfully obvious to everyone around her already. As if that wasn't enough, she actually pointed AT the screen several times, as if to say to her friends, "No, you're looking the wrong direction! Look at the big screen with the moving images! Yes, that is why we're here! Now, look at what is happening!" Fortunately, The Ring is one of those movies that draws the audience in and then shuts their mouths. Especially at the end, when the audience thought the movie was over and all that was left was falling action, they started in with their comments and nonsense. But when the big moment came, they shut up again. It was great.

CELEBRITY SIGHTING: On the way home from work last Friday, I noticed a film crew on Lankershim setting up for something. I'm always interested in seeing movies and TV get made so I looked for something to give away the project. One of the crew members was wearing a 24 shirt. Well, on my way to work today, I saw Kiefer Sutherland putting on a bullet proof vest. So they are shooting parts of season 2 for 24 down the street from my house. I may go by there on the way home and see if I can get on the set, or maybe see if Kiefer Sutherland will cut off one of my thumbs.

Kim and I went to see Red Dragon yesterday. Read the full review here with notes on my thoughts on the whole Hannibal trilogy. I am going to update the movies page with some stuff about the 2001 screening that we went to last weekend. On Friday we went to see Mr. Show: Hooray for America at UCLA. It was great, although they did rehash some stuff from the HBO show. They were attacking flag waving patriots a lot, which I enjoyed. You have to be really thick skinned to enjoy Bob and David. They are equal opportunity offenders. Celebrity sightings in the crowd were: Colin Hanks (star of Orange County and son of Tom Hanks), Tom Kenney (voice of Spongebob Squarepants and member of original Mr. Show cast), Jill Talley (wife of Tom Kenney and member of original Mr. Show cast), Jay Johnston (character actor and member of original Mr. Show cast), and Scott Ian (guitarist for Anthrax).

It looks like the ezboard that controls my forum is having trouble, so the forum may be inaccessible until around 8:00pm PDT today. Also, the Fantasy Film League October 2002 season deadline has been extended until Sunday October 6th due to a server move on their end. So if you think you missed the deadline to submit your movie for the October 2002 season, you have until Sunday to finish up.
