I heard about some good news the other day on the radio. It seems that Chris Cornell (the lead singer for the now defunct 90s band Soundgarden) and the musicians from Rage Against the Machine have joined up and created a band. The band is called Audioslave, and the album is due out on November 19. They have the first single, "Cochise", available for streaming download on the official site. They sound like what you would expect, Rage mixed with Soundgarden. I think it could be really good.

A new trailer for the Dreamworks remake of Ring is up. I'm really looking forward to this. It looks like it is very similar to the original, which gets better and better the more I think about it. I just hope the ending has the same scary scenes. Check out the trailer here.

Recently, we picked up the DVD of season 1 of 24. We started watching it Wednesday, I think, and we are already 6 episodes into it. If you did not see it when it was out, you should definitely rent or buy this set. It is very very good and quite addictive. We watched 3 episodes last night and were about to watch another.

The October 2002 Season of the Fantasy Film League is about to start. Here are the current standings from the July 2002 season, which runs until June 2003. Basically, it is the same as fantasy football, only it is interesting and fun and not much work. You pick 1 director and 6 actors to comprise your fantasy film and the movies that those people are in make you money. The longer they stay in the top 10 and the higher in the top 10 they are, the more money they make. The scoring also takes into effect what billing the actor has in the movie. The higher the billing, the more they are worth. I'm not going to go into every detail here, just check it out if you are interested in joining for the next season. Here is where you sign up. The league number is 660 and the password is lucasrocks. Feel free to join up before October 1 to be in the next season. Yes, my movie is in last place, but only 2 out of the 7 people have been scoring for me so far. Once Red Dragon comes out, I should climb the ladder.

Guy in a Suit Fantasy Film League - July 2002
1. $34,012,500 - Elliott
2. $27,075,000 - Mr. Moore
3. $26,325,000 - Ron
4. $21,975,000 - Jeremy
5. $21,075,000 - Kim
6. $18,865,000 - Chris Heffner
7. $8,437,500 - Shane
8. $8,400,000 - Travis

Congratulations to Michael Chiklis, who plays Vic Mackey on FX's The Shield for winning an emmy and beating out the two guys from Six Feet Under, Kiefer Sutherland from 24, and Martin Sheen from The West Wing. Thanks to Elliott for alerting me of this. If you never watched The Shield, you are missing some great television. Season 2 starts in January 2003.

We've been watching quite a few movies recently. I'm going to try to get back into putting the movies stuff on the movies page and the games stuff on the games page and the rest of the stuff on this page. So go to those pages to see the new stuff.

The script is coming along, and I'm getting into a rhythm of writing every day...well, the last 2 days at least.

Kim and I bought the 24 DVD, even though we've never seen an episode of the show. I keep hearing how good it is, and I never wanted to jump in the middle, so we never watched it. I like Kiefer Sutherland from the old days of The Lost Boys, Young Guns, and Stand By Me, so I think it will be good.

The new Disturbed album came out yesterday, so we headed to Best Buy to pick it up. Along with Nine Inch Nails, Korn, and perhaps a little bit of The Lords of Acid and recently Kidney Thieves, Disturbed is Kim's favorite band. I liked the first album, so I burned myself a copy and listened to it today. It is good stuff, if you like that type of music.

You may remember there was talk of filming last weekend. Well, after careful consideration and a look at the weather forecast for those days, we decided that 16 hours of 100 degree desert weather just was not a good idea. So we have postponed that particular project until the winter months. That puts me out of the running for Project Greenlight, but I need to finish this script anyway, and there is always next year.

I have lots of stuff I need to put up on all the pages, but we've been busy at home. We now have furniture in the house, so we actually have a bedroom for the first time in 2 years or so. Kim and I have been sleeping on a variety of different things since then. We slept on two mattresses for a while, then we were using an air mattress when we first moved to California. Unfortunately, those are not designed to be slept on every night for long periods of time, so we had to buy some futon matresses. We just recently bought a frame for them, and we were using that, but now we have graduated to a full fledged bed with all the trimmings. We also have an office in the loft with our computers on desks and a phone. We are almost living normally.

Perhaps I'll do a more comprehensive update from home later tonight.

Today is the big day; 9/11. I keep hearing everyone saying, "We won't forget!", but I think a lot of people have already forgotten. For instance, I notice that people where I work are bothered when the security guy asks to see their badge. I hear them overtalking in the elevator afterwards, "Christ, I come here every day." I feel like slapping them and saying, "Just because you work here, doesn't mean you aren't going to blow the place up." What if they were fired the day before? Do they actually expect the security guy to remember who was hired and fired each day and keep a running tally of active employees? You get the same thing at the airport. They snatch a guy out of line and tell him to remove his shoes and he starts to bitch about it. It isn't as if the airplane is going to leave without the guy...unless of course he has C4 in his Keds.

That brings us to racial profiling. If you'll look at the racial profiles of terrorists, they certainly seem to fit a certain pattern. You don't see a lot of 65 year old black women or 20 year old Asian men in that pattern. If someone gets murdered, and the composite sketch of the suspect looks like me, I can't complain about racial profiling. I can't say, "You're just picking on me because I look like the guy." If you look like the guy, you're a suspect. I'm sure there is plenty of racial profiling going on the middle east right now. I'm sure that blonde white people are being harassed on a daily basis.

Now, at the same time, I get angry when I hear some idiot say something to a person of arab blood about being a terrorist. I want to ask them, "Do you think I'm a terrorist? Because it was a white guy my age who blew up the FBI building in Oklahoma." Racial profiling resulted in lots of American born Japanese people being rounded up and stuck in camps during World War II. So I see how it can go wrong.

One last thing, can we please stop with all the If 'this' then the terrorists win stuff? In order to celebrate Americanism, I recommend you go buy something you can't afford and don't need in the hunter/gatherer sense of being a human, but something you really want. Something like this.

Kim and I are back in California. Ahh California; where the sirens are loud and the air is visible, where the streets are narrow and English is sparse, and where Kim and I have jobs and own property. When we got off the plane in Burbank, we breathed in the cool air and were glad to be back home. We love Kentucky, but it is hot and humid and there are a lot of bugs there. Our condo seems to have weathered our lack of attention fine, although the cockroaches in the kitchen were a little too comfortable.

As some of you may or may not know, I am ramping up production on a short I would like to submit to Project Greenlight's director's competition. I had an actress in mind at work, but she had something more important come up so I had to look online for people. So I posted this ad. The ad has been up for slightly more than 24 hours, and we have already gotten over 50 submissions. I may be overwhelmed looking through picture after picture of beautiful young people who want to drive into the desert with me. I am very pleased and surprised by this turnout.

We are still in Kentucky, although Kim and I are separated by about 144 miles now. She is in Lexington with her family, and I am in Glasgow with mine. Living in California has given me a new appreciation for the country. As a teenager growing up in this house, I was constantly annoyed by how far away from everything it was, the lack of cable, etc. Now that I am older, I can see how great this place is. It may not be as hard for Kim to get me to move back in 4 to 5 years as I originally thought.
