Well, as fate would have it, we did not get our AC on Saturday. It seems that the guy who sold us the thing thought that the guys who would install it would not have any problem getting a 300 lbs condenser up a 15 foot ladder without a crane. So we are going to have to reschedule. Thankfully, it is cooling off a bit these days.

We are still going through our list of movies with Pajaro. We watched one of Kim's additions, Resident Evil, on Saturday. He reacted to it with his characteristic "eh". There is a pretty good teaser for the sequel called Resident Evil: Apocalypse on the net. I think this week we are going to watch Full Metal Jacket.

I beat Tron 2.0 tonight. It's a fantastic game. Every time I loaded it up, I was impressed with the visuals. I have to say my favorite level was the firewall, but the whole game shines. I stand by my comments that it is the most innovative shooter in years. I am going to try to finish Neverwinter Nights after a long break from it, and I've been playing the expansion Shadows of Undrentide multiplayer with some friends of mine back east. It is lots of fun to play through it multi, if a bit chaotic.

Lastly, The Return of the King trailer was released today, as if that was necessary. Some movies just don't need any marketing. Episode III falls into that category.

I quote Jason Lee as the demon Azrael from Dogma:

"No pleasure, no rapture, no exquisite sin greater... than central air."

We are supposed to be getting our AC unit replaced this Saturday.

Friday night Kim and I went with Mike and his wife Michele to see Underworld at the Chinese theater in Hollywood. We don't go to that theater much just because it is such a popular theater, but we went to an earlyish show, so it wasn't bad at all. The movie was great. It has much more story than I expected, and it is actually a good story. Some of the characters are a little flat, and I think it suffers from the Blade II syndrome (only one of the characters is human, so they are hard to relate with) but that doesn't take away from the experience. It is still a quality action movie.

Last night, I stayed up late playing Knights of the Old Republic and finished it. I played through it as a Dark character, and I have to say that this is the first game I've played that really runs all the way with the evil character. There are several places in the dark side path that really surprised me. It has some great plot twists, and the story is one of the better video game stories I've played. If you have an Xbox, you should be playing this game. If you have a PC, you should buy it when it comes out in November.

Yesterday, Star Wars Episode III completed principal photography. There will still be reshoots, but most of the footage has been shot. Remember the mantra: SPOILER FREE FOR EPISODE III! So far, I've been mostly successful. I read one small thing that the main stream media shoved in my face, but that is all. I'll allow myself the two posters and the title, but that is it. Once the marketing machine starts, I'll basically have to stop reading magazines, stop watching TV, stop going to movies, and stay off the internet. I don't want to see the teaser, the trailer, or any of the commercials. I want to experience all the visuals for the first time at once. It won't be easy, but it could be worth it. Actually, I think I can avoid most of it with careful attention and not have to resort to asking Kim to bury me alive.

Kim and I are now a Tivo family. I bought a Tivo receiver from DirecTV, so we'll probably get the Hughes. We don't get it installed until Tuesday the 23rd.

Today Kim and I and our friend Heather went to see Once Upon a Time in Mexico at the Arclight. If you liked Desperado, you will like OUaTiM. It features the same style of fairy tale gunfighting and over-the-top style that Desperado did. I have to admit, that it is kind of badly written. However, Johnny Depp is really good in it, so it is definitely worth seeing. Our movie was quickly overshadowed by a sighting of none other than Neo himself, Keanu Reeves. He was by himself and had ridden a motorcycle to the theater. He jumped right to the back of a line for popcorn and a coke and went to see Lost in Translation. Kim, Heather, and I sat outside the theater talking for a while and were deciding where we were going to eat. I had the idea of waiting a little longer for Keanu Reeves to get out of his movie and we'd ask him to come along. So we did.

Heather also wanted to know what kind of motorcycle he rode, so that was her impetus to wait for him. Now, I've had the opportunity to talk to celebrities before, but I always pass it up because I want to respect their space in their leisure time. Luckily for us, Heather has no qualms about approaching anybody about anything. So on the way to the parking garage, she stopped him. Kim, Heather, and I talked to him for a matter of minutes and were interrupted by an autograph hound that Keanu mocked, which was good. Heather was relating to Keanu how she saw him when she was coming out of the bathroom and thought to herself, "Oh my god, it's Nemo!" Yes, she actually said that; a purposeful joke, she told us later. Anyway, he declined our offer to eat some pizza with us and said he was going home to drink. He seemed like a pretty cool guy; very down to Earth. As a side note, he was wearing the oldest, rattiest shoes I've ever seen. They were held together with duct tape...literally. It was great.

When we got home, we watched Bulletproof Monk. It kind of sucks, skip it.

This will be quick, I'll add more later. Today is my birthday...hurray...or something. I canceled my subscription to Star Wars Galaxies. There is just too much other stuff out there that is better to play. Recently, demos for Call of Duty, Homeworld 2, and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy have been released. Not to mention that today I got my disc for the Lords of the Realm III Beta, which I am installing right now. More later...perhaps.

We (and when I say "we", I mean just Kim and I) had a great time in San Diego over the weekend. We stayed at the Paradise Point Resort two nights. We tried our hands at riding a wave runner. I think I made it about 100 yards before I rolled it over and dumped us both in the drink. Kim was not pleased. It was her birthday over the weekend, so we did all the stuff girls like (room service breakfast, walks on the beach, etc.) On Monday we went to the San Diego Zoo. I've heard all the hype about it's the greatest zoo in the world and all that, but really...how good can a zoo be? Either you can see the animal in the cage or not. When I go to a zoo, I want to see big cats. That means I want to see a male, adult lion. When we went to the LA Zoo last year I got to see one. Well, the San Diego Zoo did not have one. They also did not have any plastic mold injection animal machines (see earlier link). They did have koalas, but since koala bears sleep 20 hours out of the day, they were not very active for the 10 minutes we waited hoping they would wake up. So I left the San Diego Zoo unimpressed. Next time I want to see a lion, I'll know where to go. And it will cost me about 1/5 as much.
