A couple new trailers of note went up in the last few days; Exorcist: The Beginning and Blade: Trinity. I couldn't get the Blade: Trinity trailer to work from inside our company firewall, so you may have that same problem if you're at work. I'm hesitant to recommend Exorcist: The Beginning, because anytime a movie is "finished", screened for executives, and then the director is fired and a new one is brought on to reshoot 90% of the movie with basically the same script...well, that can't be good. I'm looking forward to Blade: Trinity because, and I think I've stated this before, I like vampires and karate and Blade movies have both. I've had to defend Blade and Blade II to haters before, and I expect those same people will set their sights on Blade: Trinity. When Kim and I went to see the screening of Blade at the Arclight with David Goyer, he practically promised the crowd that Blade 3 would not be called Blade: Trinity because we all decided that the name sucked. I guess there are others with more power than writer/directors.

UPDATED: I found out that the Blade: Trinity site is now up with a quicktime version of the trailer. You can see it here.

The new site is up. Enjoy. We now support mouse-over titles on the icons on the left side so just hover your mouse over them to see what they are. We're still working on the back pages like archives and reviews, but those will be done soon.

I bought Spider-Man: The Movie 2 for Xbox today. It's really good, although I wish there was some more variety in the random missions you get. Also, I think it is confusing that they call the game based on the movie "The Movie".

I borrowed Mike's copy of Hero on DVD and we watched it last night. I liked it, but I think it suffers from style-over-substance. The movie is beautiful. It's like watching a moving painting. The story is good, too, but I think there is too much slow motion and too much wire work. I know, I know...when you watch these Chinese mythology movies you're just supposed to accept that these characters can do that, and I do accept it. However, I think I'm tired of it. Yes...I am tired of it. It's still very much worth seeing, but I'd prefer the fights to be more about punching and kicking and less about flying and spinning.

Tonight we watched Spider-Man in preparation for Spider-Man 2 next week. Call it narcissism if you will, but I still say to myself, "Holy shit! I'm in the movie!" when our scene comes up. And we still pause the DVD. I'm really looking forward to Spider-Man 2. We're going on Wednesday night to the Arclight. I also plan on picking up Spider-Man 2 for Xbox if I can find out Monday or Tuesday. After seeing The Chronicles of Riddick, I have less interest in playing the Riddick game. I think I've seen all it has to offer.

I found a review of Catwoman from a test screening, and after reading it, it sounds like Catwoman could be worse than I imagined. The plots seems to be something about Patience Price (Halle Berry) overhearing that some make-up company is producing make-up that melts your face...unless you're Sharon Stone. In that case, the evil make-up apparently turns your skin "hard as marble" and makes you a super villain. So Patience is killed and resurrected by a cat and becomes Catwoman, feline avenger for justice or something. The reviewer mentioned that during the final "fight" the dialogue goes like this, "For you, Patience, it’s game over," to which Catwoman replies, "It’s over-time!" At first I thought that watching Halle Berry in a torn up leather suit and a whip crawl around on all fours and purr could not be a bad thing. Now I'm not so sure. I think this movie could suck beyond anything imaginable. I mean, the director's name is Pitof...no last name. For Christ's sake, COME ON!! Does anyone take these one-name assholes seriously? I beg you, Warner Bros, release the Batman Begins teaser to the internet BEFORE Catwoman comes out. I don't want to have to buy a ticket for this just to walk out after the teaser.

One of our favorite movies, Donnie Darko, is being rereleased in theaters as a Director's Cut and Quicktime posted the trailer. Old school readers of this site will remember me writing of the greatness of Donnie Darko way back whenKim and I saw it in a theater in Los Feliz when it first came out and have been screening it on DVD for people since it hit the shelves. I hope this is not another Apocalypse Now Redux.

Kim and I have been working on the new site and a different site that I'll unveil later. I'm hoping to put up the new site in a few days once I get all the current stuff moved over. The other site is something I'm kind of excited about, but it is going to take a lot of work from other people. I'm hoping to have something for it in the next few weeks.

We went to see The Chronicles of Riddick on Saturday. It wasn't as good as I wanted it to be, it was just as good as I thought it would be, and it was better than everyone told me it would be. If you don't like sci-fi archetypes and sci-fi dialogue, you'll hate it. If you liked Pitch Black as a movie, but your favorite part about it was anything except Riddick, you probably won't like it. If you like Riddick and are interested in "the further adventures of...", then you might like it. I hope it does well enough to get the sequel made, because I really liked the ending. It's really the second act that takes a detour and loses people.

"That's no moon. It's a spacestation."

BEFORE

AFTER

One of the first things I noticed was the lack of reflectivity on the screen. You can see it in the pictures. Lovely. Kim was sitting on the couch when Rick and I put the TV up on the stand. She almost wept.

My friend Shane has started a "livejournal". LiveJournal is like blogger or blogspot except far inferior, practices segregation, and is favored by 13 year old girls. Shane does a lot of favors for me, so leave a rude comment somewhere on his page.

My blogging has slowed to a crawl of late. Some of that is because Kim, the Mad Bushman, and I have been working on a new site. It's almost done and may go up as soon as a few days. You'll have to check back. Also, since a lot of my audience is people I work with, I feel like I'm using old material if I blog stuff that happened at work. However, there is a larger percentage of readers who are not being entertained by me at their workplace, so I vow to post more stuff on here more frequently. I'll try to do a brief recap.

The new TV is due to show up tomorrow. It was supposed to be here yesterday, but it just wasn't to be. If it doesn't get here tomorrow, there will be much death.

After threats of spoilage from Shane about The Dark Tower books, I recently increased my reading pace and ordered both Wolves of the Calla and Song of Susannah. I re-read the original The Gunslinger, then read the new revised The Gunslinger, and got through a second pass of The Drawing of the Three, The Waste Lands, and am just finishing Wizard and Glass. Hopefully, I'll be all caught in time for September 21 and the release of the seventh and final book of the series, The Dark Tower.

What else...uh...Kim and I are still playing World of Warcraft regularly, but have curtailed it a bit. I'm saving the rest of The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay to play on the new TV. I bought tickets to see The Chronicles of Riddick on Saturday at the Arclight, and also went ahead and bought my tickets for Spider-Man 2. I guess that's it for now. Check back in a few days for the new look.

We have a new toy on the way. After looking and reading and watching for about a year, we finally grew impatient and bought an HDTV. When looking for an HDTV, you need to pick a technology. Your options are plasma, DLP, LCD, and projection LCD. All have their own advantages and disadvantages, but there is one key thing to remember; they are all better than what you have. So, do not suffer endlessly trying to find the best, longest lasting, but cheapest technology. My advice is to go into a store with all of them and just look at them. That is how we made our final decision. I was suffering over the technology so I turned to Kim and said, "Which one looks better to you?" She picked the Sony KF60WE610, which is a 60" projection LCD. I read some reviews, she scoured the internet, and we found one at our price range. It should be here next Wednesday.

Fry's had The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay on sale last Thursday for $34.99, so I picked it up. I read some great reviews of it online, and it is pretty good, although my PC eyes are spoiled. I think it would benefit from a pass or two of anti-aliasing, but the graphics use the same kind of normal mapping that Doom III will use. It's good. Just a quick clarification for those wondering, here is the timeline of the Riddick stuff that will be out soon. It goes Escape from Butcher Bay (game), Pitch Black (movie), Dark Fury (30 minute animated short on DVD), The Chronicles of Riddick.
