So Kim and I flew to Detroit for the weekend to go to a wedding for
a friend of hers. I haven't been to Detroit in about 20 years. I
used to live in Kalamazoo, MI, and we would come to Detroit for
Pistons' games, but I remember very little of the city. People give
Los Angeles a hard time, but it looks like a damn country club
compared to this toilet of a city. I say "toilet" because Kim and I
were driving down a side street to turn around and drove past an
adult pissing in the middle of a street. This was at about 5:00pm. I
know what you're about to say, "Homeless people pee in the street
all the time." Yes, that is true. However, this was a guy wearing a
suede track suit standing on the driver's side of an nice
SUV...pissing in the street. He even waved to us as we drove by as
if to say, "Welcome to Detroit!", and we weren't approaching him
from behind. What a shit hole.

Last week Kim and I got engaged. Here are some views of the ring:

This weekend I went to the Hollywood
Film Festival Pitch Fest to pitch my script, and it went pretty
well. A couple companies were interested, a couple were not, and a
couple were on the fence about it. I learned a lot from the pitching
seminar, and I may try to go to the next one in June with another
script. If you're out there writing and haven't been to one of these
yet, I recommend you go. The experience of pitching to producers
itself is worth the money it costs to go.
Thanks to my friend Shane, who's a big shot in the gaming biz, this
is what was on my screen Saturday night:

That's right, I'm playing the
World of Warcraft Beta, and my first impressions are that
it is very very good.

Sorry there hasn't been much up here. I just haven't been in the
mood. This coming weekend (the 20th and 21st), I'm heading to some
pitch meetings to pitch my script to some production companies. It
is kind of a cattle-call/seminar where they give you 5 minutes in
front of some people who might be interested. It's a long shot, but
even if I don't get any hits at all it will be good experience.
Since I'm sending out query letters to companies about my script,
and I don't think people take hotmail addresses seriously, I'm using
an address associated with this site. The "Email Me" button to the
left and the link from each post will reflect the new address.

My two favorite shows are premiering
new seasons this week. Hopefully The Sopranos Season 5 will
be better than Season 4. With Steve Buscemi added to the cast, I
expect it will be.

Kim and I went to see Apocalypse Now tonight at the
Arclight. It turns out that they were screening the Redux
version, which I have never seen. I absolutely hated it, and
here is why. I wrote this quickly and under duress, so it may
read a little "rant-ish". Be warned...foul language is afoot.

So, I've heard from people accusing Mel Gibson of trying to profit
from the crucifixion by making The Passion of the Christ.
Let me straighten you guys out. Anyone who has ever sold a copy of
The Bible over cost is profiting from the crucifixion.
People who sell those Mary figurines to put on your dashboard are
profiting from the crucifixion. Mel Gibson spent $25 million to
create a piece of art to honor Jesus in a medium world renowned for
losing money. The fact that this film is successful does not mean
Gibson is a money-grubbing opportunist. It just means that a lot of
people like his art. And when did wanting to make money become the
most vile and evil of ambitions? Are all you people out there
volunteering at those jobs you hate so much? The people to watch out
for are the people who sell scripts about Jesus in the wake of this
movie's success. Those are the money-grubbing opportunists.
Man...I'd kill to be one of those people.
